Halloween night isn’t just for the little goblins, it’s for the parents too! This fall sangria is the perfect “treat” for the grown-ups making the rounds. Mix it up ahead of time, and when the doorbell rings, hand mom and dad while the kids grab the candy! Add a pot of simmering chili, and you’ve got yourself a wickedly good evening.
You will need:
1 bottle dry red wine
½ cup apple brandy
¼ cup orange liqueur (like Cointreau or Grand Marnier)
1 ½ cups fresh apple cider
2 tbsp maple syrup
1 apple, thinly sliced (Honeycrisp or Gala work well)
1 pear, thinly sliced
1 orange, thinly sliced
2 cinnamon sticks
Ginger beer, to top (right before serving)
In a large pitcher, combine the red wine, apple brandy, orange liqueur, apple cider, and maple syrup. Stir well. Toss in the fruit and cinnamon sticks. Cover and refrigerate at least 2–4 hours (or overnight) to let the flavors mingle. Just before serving, top with some ginger beer for a little fizz.
Pour into glasses over ice and garnish with a cinnamon stick, apple, orange and rosemary sprig for a festive touch.
