OH LAWD HAVE MERCY!! I made this for a baby shower this weekend and it was a huge hit. Perfect over creamy grits ( which is how I served it at the shower, or a fluffy biscuit, this is something you will want to serve for brunch when you have company, because this feeds a crowd. Trust me, this is so good you will want to lick the plate! Keep this on your radar for Thanksgiving weekend.
You will need:
Olive oil
4 garlic cloves, minced
1/3 cup finely chopped sweet onion
6 Italian sausages, cases removed
1 lb peeled and deveined shrimp
2 cups chicken bone broth
Slurry ( 2 tbsp flour with 2 tbsp cold water, shake in jar)
1/2 cup heavy cream
Salt and pepper
1 tsp Old Bay
In a medium pot, heat a glug of olive oil over medium heat and add the garlic. Cook until it begins to sizzle and turns golden, then stir in the onion. Sauté for about 5 minutes, or until the onion softens. Add the sausage, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Once the sausage is fully browned, pour in the chicken bone broth and season with salt and pepper. Let it simmer for about 15 minutes.
Stir in the slurry and cook until the mixture thickens. Add the shrimp and cook just until they turn pink, then stir in the heavy cream until the sauce is warmed through and has a rich, gravy-like consistency. Finish with a sprinkle of Old Bay seasoning.
