Sometimes a place sweeps you off your feet the moment you arrive, and that’s exactly what happened during our quick but magical getaway to Martha’s Vineyard. With just one day and one night to explore, we set out to experience as much of this charming island as possible, and it did not disappoint. Arriving by ferry felt perfectly New England, the salty breeze in the air setting the tone as drove off in our rented convertible, putting the top down, and heading off to see it all.
We decided to lean fully into the island experience with lobster for every meal…..whether tucked into a buttered roll or served whole and steaming, each bite tasted of the sea and the season. Strolling through the postcard-perfect streets of Edgartown and Oak Bluffs was like stepping into a storybook, with white clapboard homes, whimsical gingerbread cottages, and harbor views that could have been painted. Along the way we made sure to stop at the famous Jaws Bridge, a slice of movie history, before continuing to the dramatic Aquinnah Cliffs of Gay Head. Standing there, looking out over the endless Atlantic, was one of those pinch-me travel moments I know I’ll always remember.
Our hotel was tucked in Vineyard Haven, and before leaving this morning we took one last crisp walk through its quiet streets and along the harborfront. In just 24 hours, Martha’s Vineyard gave us rustic charm, coastal beauty, and more lobster than I thought possible. I wouldn’t have changed a thing, because sometimes the shortest trips leave the biggest mark. Now we are off to Newport Rhode Island!
