The best time to make a Gin Basil Smash? The summer, when you have a big pot of bright green basil! You’ll need 8 to 10 basil leaves per drink.
You will need:
8 to 10 large basil leaves, plus more for garnish
2 ½ ounces gin ( I like Tanqueray)
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
3/4ounce simple syrup ( I buy mine premade)
Lots of ice
Place the basil leaves in the bottom of a cocktail shaker you don’t have one, you can use a large metal cup or bowl.
With a muddler or wooden spoon, gently mash the basil a few times to release the juices.
Add the gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup to a shaker with basil, and add two handfuls of ice. Shake until cold. Pour into a highball glass. I like to top mine off with a bit of Fever Tree light Indian tonic. Garnish with a basil leaf and lemon peel.
Cheers Y’all!!
