They say London is not well known for their cuisine. We had the usuals, beef Wellington, fish and chips, Yorkshire pudding, scones with clotted cream, meat pies and I quite fancied it all!
Most likely because these are dishes I never make at home, and that’s what made them so special. The birthplace of gin and tonics, my go to summer drink, I love them at home as well, but they just seem to taste better in London.
The wonderful thing about London is the melting pot of cultures. I absolutely loved The Borough Market, and Im super jealous that I dont have anything like this near me, not even in Charlotte.
Fresh made breads, pastries, vats of olives, cured meats, beautiful dish ware and linens were just a few things you could purchase. But watching the people make the food from their culture was something spectacular. The seafood Paella had a line that wrapped around the market. There was food from the Middle East, Africa, Asia, freshly made right there in front of you.
We visited all the historical attractions, London Tower, Tower Bridge, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abby, Churchills War Room, and watched the changing of the guards, I believe that was my favorite! And as we always do, we wandered up and down the side streets looking at the architecture, guessing how old a building may be. We shopped a bit at Harrods, as well as dined at the Power Station on our last night.
I found that four days was plenty there, for me anyway. I did enjoy my first trip to London very much. I am not sure I will go back anytime soon, yes Italy still owns my soul.
