Portland is a city in the U.S. state of Maine, set on a peninsula extending into Casco Bay. The Old Port waterfront features working fishing wharves and converted warehouses with restaurants and shops. Nearby, the Western Promenade is a public park atop a bluff, offering river and mountain views. Its surrounding district, the West End, is full of Victorian-era homes, including the Victoria Mansion museum.
Of course I enjoyed eating lobster every day, and it’s not expensive. I even brought some home on the plane because they know how to pack it to travel. I rented a car and drove down to Kennebunkport to see the historic lighthouses. Visiting Maine without seeing a lighthouse would be like skipping the Colosseum in Rome. Kennebunkport itself is just an adorable historical sea village and is only 40 miles from Portland.
I stayed at the Hampton Inn right on the waterfront, and the location is perfect to walk everywhere. I loved my morning walks with the sea mist filling the air!
