October is a beautiful month head a bit north for some wine tasting. It is only a 90 minute drive from Fort Mill, and the weather is perfect.
Located in Ronda, North Carolina Piccione Vineyards award-winning wines are produced from estate-grown fruit. They are Italian owned and operated, and grow all of their own fruit on-site.
Considering I was just in Umbria 2 weeks ago, I literally felt like I was sipping wine looking out into the Italian countryside. My favorites, and of course purchases were the Ovina, a white blend of Vermentino and Pinot Grigio with a touch of Sagrantino Rosé, and the Montepulciano, aged in French oak, with dried rose, black cherry and dried strawberry notes.
North Carolina is home to more than 525 vineyards and 185 wineries set amid scenic landscapes from the mountains to the coast. Many of the best North Carolina wineries and vineyards are found within the Yadkin Valley region.
How lucky are we to have these treasures close by?
